Individual Therapy
Individual therapy—sometimes called psychotherapy or counseling—is a one-on-one process that helps you better understand yourself, navigate challenges, and make meaningful changes. Working privately with a licensed therapist, you’ll explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences in a supportive and confidential space.
Sessions typically last 45–60 minutes and focus on areas such as anxiety, depression, relationship stress, grief, life transitions, or personal growth. Your therapist will help you identify patterns, clarify goals, and develop tools to support emotional well-being.
Research consistently shows that individual therapy is highly effective for a wide range of concerns. Studies indicate that most people experience significant improvement through therapy, and the benefits often last longer than those from medication alone (American Psychological Association, 2012; Lambert, 2013). A strong therapeutic relationship—the trust and collaboration between you and your therapist—is one of the best predictors of positive outcomes (Horvath, Del Re, Flückiger, & Symonds, 2011).
There are many evidence-based approaches to therapy, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), interpersonal therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and mindfulness-based therapies. The best fit depends on your needs, preferences, and goals (Cuijpers et al., 2019).
Therapy can sometimes bring up difficult emotions, but it’s also a space for discovery, healing, and growth. Over time, many people report feeling more self-aware, confident, and connected to what truly matters to them.
